Seasons Do Change!

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NRSV)

November is here and in the DMV area the cold temperatures came with it. A month ago, at the start of October, it seemed that the warm temps of Summer would never go away. Many of us were asking, “Where is Autumn?” It is interesting how one moment you can feel like you have been in a season for way too long, and then almost overnight things change. This can be true of the weather yes, and more importantly, it can be true of life. I do not mind admitting that there have been times along my journey when I have asked myself (and Jehovah), “Why hasn’t the season changed?”

It can be bothersome and problematic when seasons linger. What do we do when we are ready for relief and yet we feel stuck in a season that just won’t end? Perhaps there is help for us in God’s word. One thing we can do is to remember, as the writer of Ecclesiastes so eloquently expresses, that seasons do change. In fact, they must. There is a time and a season for everything in life. We will not stay in the same season forever. Just reminding ourselves that eventually our tears will dry, morning will come, and the children will grow, helps us to endure. Moreover, while we are waiting for the season to shift, we can prepare for what is to come. Do not let the difficulty, or even joy, of the current season cause you to forget that you must be ready for whatever is next. Staying connected to the Lord through prayer and Bible study can help to ensure that you have the wisdom, strength, and courage you need for your next season. Some wise person once said, “If you stay ready, you won’t have to get ready!” So, no matter how things may look or feel, your breakthrough is on the horizon. Start now getting ready for your new season!!

Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. [God] has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NLT)
